High intensity UV Light (the same light rays found in sunshine) eliminates organisms that cause green soupy water. UVs can be used to increase the efficiency of the bio-mechanical filter in under-filtered ponds. Beneficial bacteria, attached to media in the bio-mechanical filter and pond lining, continue to thrive in a system with UV filtration.
